H1 Hardcore 100 Miles Ultra Trail, Philippines by Yimsterz
General Race Comments:
Possibly the toughest 100 miles ultra here in the Philippines (and even in Asia) with 100 miles of picturesque trails, 12,000+m elevation gain and a 42 hours cut off time given. One of the less commercialized Ultras around, staying true to it's roots of less is more. It's more of a low key ultra set north in the Highlands of the Philippines.
Registration is typically manual. Personal details captured online and a wire transfer of the fees required to the given account details.
Was the course well-marked & accurate:
Course was well marked to me. This year even introduces reflective stripes on the ribbon which helped greatly at night or during foggy sessions. Marshals were stationed at key areas where confusion may arise with the many paths to take, specially at Mount Pulag where course markings are forbidden. Gpx file is provided upfront which makes for a good backup measure for runners.
A myriad of trail surfaces a runner goes through. From rocky dry trails to grasslands to mossy forests and even concrete ladden trails. Weather can be as hot as Malaysia during daytime and colder at night as we are basically on high altitude most of the time. Climbs are aplenty and many are long ones ranging from climbs of 800m straight up to over 1,700m. Some even with a degree of technicalities involved or steep.
Finishing line at a local school. Straightforward greeted with your finisher goodies and photo opportunities. Warm solid food served at the finishing line with plenty refreshing beverages available.
Event tee given which has a nice local touch included in terms of the design. Buckles solid and excellent for all finishers. Hand carved local warrior trophy given for each finisher too.
Overall, how was this event:
It was super enjoyable with the great warm hospitality extended by the organizer & crew as well as the local Pinoy runners.
Will you attend this event next year:
Its my 4th time already for this event and will be back for my 5th next year.
